Metal Gear Solid 5 “Mother Base Coins” Pricing Revealed

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain releases tomorrow, and information on the cost of purchasing in-game Mother Base Coins has been revealed. According to Metal Gear Network, Mother Base Coins will cost players anywhere from $1.65 to $79.95, depending on how many they desire.

Mother Base Coins are used to speed up the construction of parts of Forward Operating Bases, or FOBs. FOBs are developed in the single player campaign, and they generate resources used in the development of Mother Base. While online, FOBs can be attacked by other players and can be defended in a 1v1 battle. Mother Base, on the other hand, can never be attacked by other players.

Players will get alerted during a story mission when one of their FOBs is being attacked by another player, and then they can choose to  pause their game and defend the FOB. From the sounds of it, players will be able to turn off this invasion feature if they wish to play the story without distractions. FOBs are separate from Metal Gear Online, a multiplayer mode coming in October.

It will be interesting to see how important FOBs really are to the story missions and how microtransactions may affect the gameplay experience. We won’t have to wait much longer to find out – Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain releases tomorrow, September 1st. Our review will be up as soon as we make our way through the deep and complex game.
