A Few Bits of Information on Dark Souls III’s Magic System
Game director Hidetaka Miyazaki has let a few things slip on how magic will work in From Software’s next epic. GameInformer has the honour of having Dark Souls III on their October magazine cover, and took the chance to talk to Miyazaki about how the magic system will change – and remain the same.
Here are some of the main points from the article:
- Many of the spells from Dark Souls and Dark Souls II will be returning
- Each spell will “have specific characteristics that can enhance the players’ play styles and strategies,” similar to how each weapon in past games had unique qualities
- It’s unclear, but it sounds like there may be a separate system that allows players to upgrade, combine, or customize base spells
- Dark Souls 3’s magic will be based of an MP bar, instead of a certain number of uses per individual spell

Dark Souls III is tentatively set to release in the first half of 2016 on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
